Seminars available with Virtual Communicate-ed Conference

In addition to the keynote update/refresher training delivered at all our September Conferences, we offer a range of seminars.

If you book the full day Virtual Conference, you will automatically get access to all of these prerecorded seminars from 6th September-4th October.

Delegates attending the full day at our Venue Conferences will have the choice between the first two seminars live on the day, but can also opt to add all the prerecorded seminars to their booking for £10.

The tutor for the ‘The Effect of Maths Difficulties on Exam Performance’ seminar is Rebecca Thompson.

Rebecca is a Specialist Teacher with more than 19 years’ assessment experience. She has a current Assessment Practising Certificate, regularly carrying out diagnostic assessment for dyslexia and dyscalculia, as well as carrying out access arrangement assessments. She is a senior assessor and IQA for the PAPAA course, supporting students with the course demands. She is a member of the APC accreditation team for the BDA and is a SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) approved CPD provider, offering a SASC approved mentoring course for diagnostic report writing and a Feifer Assessment of Maths course.

The tutor for the ‘Year in Exam Access Arrangements’ and ‘SPaRCS, RBANS Update, Beta 4’ seminars is Caroline Read.

Caroline is Founder & Senior Course Tutor at Communicate-ed. She is a Specialist Teacher with practical experience in all areas of the Access Arrangements process and trains for LAs, Universities and SEN Services. Her book ‘Assessment Guidance for Access Arrangements’ was published by GL Assessment. She contributed to the PATOSS/JCQ publication ‘Dyslexia: Assessing the need for Access Arrangements’, has been published in academic journals, and has worked with various publishers to develop tests. She was part of the working party which set up ‘Access Arrangements Online’ and has contributed to other DfE and Ofqual training/policy projects.

The second tutor for the ‘SPaRCS, RBANS Update, Beta 4’ seminar is Amy Martin.

Amy plays a major role in the management and running of Communicate-ed. She holds a BSc in Psychology from Southampton University and is a qualified primary teacher and access arrangements assessor. Amy also has a role in managing the postgraduate qualifications offered by Communicate-ed’s sister company Include-ed .

The tutors for the ‘The Development and Administration of the DASH-2’ seminar are Anna Barnett, Sheila Henderson and Beverley Scheib, authors of the DASH-2.

Anna is a Professor in Psychology at Oxford Brookes University. She is Research Lead in the Department of Psychology, Health and Professional Development and teaches on a range of postgraduate and undergraduate psychology courses at Oxford Brookes. Anna’s general area of research is perceptual-motor development and within this she has a special interest in both Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and in the skill of handwriting.

Sheila is a Reader Emerita at the Institute of Education, University of London. She taught on both undergraduate and graduate level courses at the Institute, many of which involved training teachers of children with special educational needs. Sheila is principal author of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children – Third Edition (Movement ABC-3) and has published widely in the fields of motor development and disability. She was a founding member of the National Handwriting Association and held the position of Chair for 10 years.

Beverly is a retired teacher with experience in mainstream and special schools in the USA and the UK. Her prime focus throughout her career and retirement has been on literacy, with a specific interest in handwriting, keyboarding, and perceptual-motor problems. She has combined an academic role in teacher training and research with teaching and assessing children and has co-authored several booklets on handwriting.

The tutor for the ‘Supporting Students with a Visual Impairment’ seminar is Joanne Fallon.

Jo is a qualified teacher of the visually impaired (QTVI) who has worked with all ages from pre-school to further education since 1987. She worked in a London peripatetic service supporting children with a visual impairment for 15 years, serving 6 of the London Boroughs as well as heading a nursery. After working with Children with Severe Learning Difficulties in Melbourne Australia, Jo took on the role of Senior Advisory Teacher for Children and Young People with Visual Impairment in East Sussex, alongside volunteering with a local Association for the Blind.

The tutor for the ‘Motivating and Preparing Young People for Exams’ seminar is Lorraine Lee.

Lorraine runs her own training company (lorrainelee.org) offering dynamic and inspirational training for parents, teachers, pupils and early years practitioners. This training is delivered through a range of services: Parent workshops, One to one sessions, Teacher training, INSET day training, PSHE lessons, Year group assemblies, Small pupil groups. Lorraine has 3 children and a background in Child Psychology, Positive Parenting Training and Child Development. She is passionate about giving children and young people the best chances possible.
