This webinar is for anyone who is interested in exploring assessments for visual and visual motor processing. The DTVP-A:2 is an assessment of visual processing recognised by SASC for in diagnostic assessment purposes, and is also acceptable in assessments for access arrangements as a measure of visual and/or visual motor processing. Dr Reynolds discusses:
The world-renowned neuropsychologist Dr. Cecil Reynolds discusses his assessment tool the Adolescent and Adult Second Edition (DTVP-A: 2) Visual Motor Efficiency Index (VME) as an assessment for Visual and Visual Motor processing. This test is on the SASC Test Evaluation Committee (STEC) approved listing.
The webinar addresses the concept of cognitive processing speed and explains the concept and how to assess it. Processing speed is defined and described primarily from the perspective of Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory. Use of the SASC-approved Developmental Test of Visual Perception: Adolescent and Adult Second Edition (DTVP-A: 2) Visual Motor Efficiency Index (VME) is featured but several other approaches are mentioned briefly. Correlates of processing speed are reviewed and implications for dealing with low levels of processing speed discussed.
The Cattell–Horn–Carroll (CHC) theory is explained and related to present academic understanding of processing speed and how these theories are related to practice in terms of administering the test. Cecil Reynolds then explains how the test was designed to incorporate these theories, and how to administer the test to correctly identify the students processing speed. He explains the most up to date research regarding the measurement of processing speed including the qualitative observations.
In the course delegates will consider in detail:

Cecil R. Reynolds, PhD, ABN, ABPdN, earned his Doctoral Degree from the University of Georgia in 1978 under the tutelage of Dr. Alan S. Kaufman, with a major in School Psychology and minors in Statistics and in Clinical Neuropsychology. He served an internship divided between the Medical College of Georgia and the Rutland Center for Severely Emotional Disturbed Children. Prior to joining the Texas A & M University faculty in 1981, Dr. Reynolds was a faculty member at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he served as Associate Director and Acting Director of the Buros Institute of Mental Measurement, after writing the grants and proposals to move the Institute to Nebraska following the death of its founder, Oscar Buros.
His primary research interests are in all aspects of psychological assessment with particular emphasis on assessment of memory, emotional and affective states and traits, and issues of cultural bias in testing. He is the author of more than 300 scholarly publications and author or editor of 55 books including the Handbook of School Psychology, the Encyclopaedia of Special Education, and the Handbook of Clinical Child Neuropsychology. He is the author of several widely used tests of personality and behaviour including the Behaviour Assessment System for Children and the Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale.
He is also senior author of the Test of Memory and Learning, Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales, and more than 30 other commercially published psychological and neuropsychological tests, and co-author of several computerized test interpretation systems. He currently practices forensic neuroscience nationally out of Austin TX.
Yes, for those professionals seeking to update an Assessment Practising Certificate, this course contributes 1.5 hours to the core assessment practice CPD requirements.

Please read the course information carefully.
We understand that some colleagues may wish to register for the webinar in the hope of finding a direct equivalent to the SDMT. Whilst both tests assess visual processing, the stimulus used differs between the tests, and the tests are not directly equivalent. We apologise that this was not clear in the original communication we sent out about this webinar, the information we have been provided with has been amended.
Please note that if you are looking for a direct equivalent for the SDMT to use in assessments for access arrangements, our webinar ‘Exploring Alternative Assessments to the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) for Exam Access Arrangements’ may be more appropriate for you.
