This webinar is for any education professional interested in identifying SpLDs in students who are using English as an Additional Language.
In this webinar Dr Anne Margaret Smith will discuss the CAML (Cognitive Assessments for Multilingual Learners), an assessment tool designed for use with students who are using English as an Additional Language (EAL). The tool explore the student’s background, their development of literacy practices, short term and working memory, speed of processing and phonological processing.
Please note that this tool cannot be used as core evidence in an access arrangements application, but can provide background information on whether the student’s difficulties are due to learning difficulties, or because they are an EAL user.
The session will last for approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, followed by Q&A with Anne Margaret.
Dr Anne Margaret Smith started her career as a teacher of English as a foreign / additional language over 30 years ago. Alongside her language teaching, she has worked as a dyslexia assessor and specialist tutor for more than 20 years. Last year she also qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist, and now works with neurodivergent adults. She founded ‘ELT well’ in 2005 and offers professional development and resources to language teachers and dyslexia assessors in all contexts. She developed the CAML (Cognitive Assessments for Multilingual Learners) as a response to the complex issues encountered when assessing EAL users.
